you called to the mission of
Lamp? |

Although you may
not be able to visit a materially poor person or
family in a crowded shelter or walk-up apartment
in the New York City Metropolitan area, you can
help to make it possible for a LAMP Missionary
to do so. |

"You,
Lord, give light to my lamp; my God, You brighten the
darkness about me."
- Psalm 18:28 |
|
While the
name 'LAMPCafé' may suggest a quiet coffee
shop located someplace far removed from the
realities of inner-city life, it is actually
just the opposite. The LAMPCafé is a
special street ministry that uses a canteen
truck to bring to different areas of New
York City not only food, but also Scripture
readings, rosaries, and opportunities to
pray with LAMP Ministers and Volunteers.
|
|
Children
who are both physically and spiritually
hungry often come to the LAMPCafé. They
enjoy listening to Gospel readings and
interacting with the LAMP Ministers.
|
|
On a cold
day, the LAMPCafé stops in an area where
homeless people live. The LAMP Ministers
invite the homeless to share friendship, a
cup of coffee, and prayer. |
|
In 1998,
soon after the LAMPCafé had begun, Cardinal
John O'Connor joyfully inspected the truck
and blessed this Ministry. Tom Scheuring,
along with other members of the LAMP
community, were present. |
|
The
LAMPCafé is in need of volunteers on
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays
between 11:00am and 1:30pm to help
distribute food to those in need. If you
would like more information, or if you would
like to volunteer for a day or two (or more)
per month please
contact us. |
